Using the Gateway with version 3.x
Previous  Top  Next

You may install the Pigeon Gateway on an existing Pigeon System version 3.x. You can do this if you want to distribute your clients among two or more Pigeon Servers. Unless you don't want to synchronize the data between all Pigeon Servers, you will need to install Pigeon Server version 4.0 or higher on separate machines.

Follow these steps:
1.Install your Pigeon Servers
2.Configure your Pigeon Servers by specifying the machine name where your Pigeon Gateway will be installed, normally the machine where a Pigeon Server version 3.x was installed.
3.Register your Pigeon Servers and start the service.
4.Make sure the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 is installed on the machine where the Pigeon Gateway will be installed.
5.If the old Pigeon Server 3.x is running, stop the service. You may backup your Pigeon.mdb database file.
6.Install the Pigeon Gateway
7.Configure the Pigeon Gateway parameters by checking the Intercept Clients v3.x option.
8.Assign IP addresses to the Pigeon Server using the Pigeon Gateway Configuration module (see Pigeon Gateway Configuration help file)

When the Pigeon Gateway is running, every Pigeon Client v3.x trying to reach the Pigeon Server v3.x on this machine will be intercepted by the Pigeon Gateway. It will extract the IP address from the TCP call and tell the Client to connect to the Pigeon Server found in the database.

If the IP address of the caller is not found in the database, the
Pigeon Gateway will reject the call. In this case, the Client's watchdog will wake up and query this server every 60 seconds.
