In this chapter, we will explain the technical aspects of the Pigeon Communications System.
For specific instructions of the use of each of the components of the system, please refer to the corresponding help files.
Once at least one Pigeon Server has been installed on a machine and the Pigeon Clients have been installed on every workstation, you can start sending messages by using the Pigeon Client's Send Message option, the Pigeon Admin or the Pigeon Generator (Windows or UNIX).
You should have at least one (1) Pigeon Admin to manage these messages or access more message properties and scheduling options.
If a Pigeon Gateway has been installed, the Pigeon Clients may request a Pigeon Server's host name and TCP port number to use by broadcasting a message on UDP port 2153. When a Pigeon Gateway catches such a request, it sends the data back to the Pigeon Client to connect to the assigned Pigeon Server. This process also occurs if a Pigeon Server stops responding.
