From the main window, you can create and edit messages, organize your messages, find who has received the messages and who is online. In order to retrieve and administer the messages, the Pigeon Admin must first connect to a Pigeon Server. In a multiple Pigeon Server network configuration, the Pigeon Admin may connect to any Pigeon Server to gain access to all data but the Users and Machines. Users and Machines are the only data which are not synchronized between the Pigeon Servers. This is by design to reduce the bandwidth and the load on the servers.

You can also create templates to speed-up message creations.

When first opened, the window shows the minimal information. The tree view is collapsed to 4 elements:
1.   Computers
2.   Messages
3.   Templates
4.   Users

When an item can be expanded, a + sign appears in front of the icon. If you expand the Messages item, all messages stored under messages will be shown in the Tree view. Also, all defined sections will be shown.

For administration purposes only, messages can be grouped within sections and groups. The root level may contain as many sections as you need. Each section may contain as many groups as you need. This helps you organize your messages.

A special section is named Clients. This section cannot be deleted. All messages created with the
Pigeon Client or the Pigeon Generator (Windows or UNIX) are automatically saved in this section. You may however create groups within this section like any other section. You may also move the messages into another group, section or to the root. Moving can be done by editing the message or by dragging and dropping the message.

The List view is filled with informations according to the item selected in the Tree view:
·computers_icon Computers: Will show all computers stored in the database with its IP address, the last user who logged on, the last time the computer connected to the server and the version of the Pigeon Client. A computer icon in front of the name indicates that the machine is online. A question mark icon indicates an unknown connection status because it is an old Pigeon Client version. In a large network configuration where more than 1 Pigeon Server is installed, the information in this list only reflects the information for the actual Pigeon Server on which the Pigeon Admin is connected to.
·messages_icon Messages: Will show all messages stored in the root as well as all existing sections. Message information includes the title, the text, the mode, the lifetime, the targeted group(s) and the URL. The icon in front of the message indicates its level.
·templates_icon Templates: Will show the defined templates.
·users_icon Users: Will show all users stored in the database, the last time they connected to the server and on which machine. A user icon in front indicates the user is online. In a large network configuration where more than 1 Pigeon Server is installed, the information in this list only reflects the information for the actual Pigeon Server on which the Pigeon Admin is connected to.
·section_icon A section: Will show all messages stored in the section as well as all created groups of messages.
·group_icon A group: Will show all messages stored in the group.
·A message : Will show the list of all users who read the message, on which machine and when.

Actions on any item are accessible from the Tool bar and from the contextual popup menu (accessible by right-clicking your mouse button over the item).

Note:
The Clients section is a system section which cannot be removed. All messages created by the Pigeon Clients or the Pigeon Generators will be saved under this section.
