Connecting all together
Previous  Top  Next

Most of the communication within the Pigeon network is done over the TCP/IP communication protocol. All components connect to the Pigeon Server via a dedicated TCP port number:
·The Pigeon Client connects to the Pigeon Server using a configurable port number. By default, it uses port number 3100. If this port is used by another application, you may choose to a different port number. In this case, the Pigeon Server and the Pigeon Clients need to be reconfigured to use the new port number. The Pigeon Server Configuration module is used to reconfigure the Pigeon Server. When you change this information in the Pigeon Server Configuration module, simply stop and restart the Pigeon Server service. Since the Pigeon Clients will not be able to connect to the Pigeon Server using the old configuration, they will request new configuration values. In Large Network configuration where a Pigeon Gaetway is used, you must modify the information within the Pigeon Gateway Configuration module. You can also modify the information on the client level by:
1.Changing the value in the Client's Options Window, tab Remote Server;
2.Changing the value in the PigeonClient.ini file located in the installation directory.
Modifying the connection parameters at the client level will be effective only if the Pigeon Server respond to these parameters otherwise, the Pigeon Client will request new parameters.
·The Pigeon Admin connects to the Pigeon Server using TCP port number 3104. This is not configurable.
·The Pigeon Generator (UNIX and Windows) connects to the Pigeon Server using TCP port number 3101. This is not configurable. As opposed to the other TCP ports used by the Pigeon system, this port is opened only for the duration of the message transmission.

In a large network where many Pigeon Servers should be installed, they connect to a Pigeon Gateway using a configurable port number. By default, port number 3102 is used. If you wish to use a different port number, all Pigeon Servers need to be reconfigured and the Pigeon Gateway should be reconfigured as well. This is done using the Pigeon Server Configuration modules and the Pigeon Gateway Configuration module.

Note:
If some Pigeon Clients version 3.x are used by your organization, then another TCP port number is used: 3103. This port number is not configurable.
